The mildly named Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive (THMPD) effectively bans the use of most herbal medicines and all non-EU based herbal traditions, such as Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine. The Independent offers the usual claim that the "directive was introduced in response to rising concern over adverse effects caused by herbal medicines."
