Post mortem examinations are due to be carried out after a man apparently killed his former partner and two children then took his own life.

Aram Abdul Razaq Aziz, 32, was found dead at Watermead Country Park in Leicester on Friday evening.

The bodies of his former partner Joy Small (pictured), 24, the couple's son Aubarr, three, and daughter Chanarra, two, were found on Saturday at a flat in Jersey Road, Leicester, about two miles away.

Police, who are investigating the deaths of all four, said the deaths of Ms Small and her children are being treated as suspicious but officers are not looking for anyone else. Post mortem examinations were due to be carried out to establish how the family died.

Ms Small's close friend and neighbour Jennie Bland, 27, said Aziz was an "abusive monster". She said the couple had previously split up, but later got back together.

Miss Bland said Ms Small, originally from Sheffield, kept it a secret amid fears her children would be taken from her if anyone knew they were back together.

She said: "She was such a good person, she was a fantastic mum. She would have died for those children."

She said the women fell out after she found out Ms Small took Aziz back: "I couldn't just sit back and let it happen, I should have just gone on my instincts and told the police and social services.

"I knew what he was like, I met him a few times, he didn't like me because Joy could be herself when she was around me. She got back with him after being so strong after he poured petrol on her and tried to set her alight.

"He beat her all the time, he tried to stop her seeing her friends, he was an abusive monster. Now she can rest in peace, she is finally away from him and so are the children."
